For Quasar, each concert is a sort of incantation celebrating the confluence of innovative music, its performers and creators with the public. For twenty years, Quasar has dedicated itself to musical creation in all its diversity. With about 140 musical premieres in their repertoire, it is impossible to portray the entirety of the ensemble's various directions in a single concert, however tonight's program is very representative of the ensemble's approach. The program includes acoustic, spatialized works as well as several mixed works, an area in which the ensemble is particularly invested. Though it accords a privileged place for Quebecois and Canadian composers, since its debut the quartet has collaborated with international composers, as tonight's program testifies. Five of the works in the program were commissioned and created for Quasar and were the result of close collaborations between the composers and the performers. The collaborate process is effectively at the heart of the quartet's artistic project, who have each year organized research and creation workshops with composers with whom it presents the creations in their Montreal series and throughout the world.
